Soul Food Impact Team – Food Collection 9/5

Flood TJ Housebuilding Trip – 9/18/10

Tangibly expressing love through service is one of the richest ways we can experience joy. Come and experience that joy by giving your time, energy and money to provide much needed shelter for families in Tijuana. Flood partners with Amor to bring warmth and safety to those in need. No construction experience is necessary, just a willing and passionate heart.

Sign up at the Welcome Tent this Sunday with a $20 deposit. (Passport REQUIRED to cross the border).

CityFest: Counselors still needed!

We are still looking for many individuals to assist in the counseling at San Diego CityFest on September 11th, 2010 at Mission Bay Park. This exciting event is going to bring many lives to Christ in San Diego! Don’t miss out on being part of God’s plan for San Diego.

We are in need of the following:

1. Counselors (2000): Those who will interact with individuals who come forward for the altar call.

2. Pastors (30): Those who will be at the site to answer any theological questions and additional prayer.

3. Professional Counselors; Licensed, Interns and Trainees(30): Those who will be on call for any who might be in a crisis and need a few moments of counseling.

4. Ushers (400): Those who will be managing the flow of the event, especially when individuals come forward.

5. Spanish Speaking: For all of the above.

It’s almost time for San Diego CityFest! This will be the culminating celebration of the city-wide Season of Service that has been taking place the past several months. There will be food, music, and lots of fun activities for youth and families. Also, Luis Palau, a compelling communicator who has spoken to millions of people all over the world, will be sharing the gospel message in a relevant way to the thousands of people who attend the festival.

When we asked CityFest staff what service area was most in need of volunteers… it was Clean Up and Recycling Crew! This is an awesome opportunity for us to serve San Diego & the CityFest team in a truly humble way. Our goal is to form a team of 60 Flood volunteers.  TO REGISTER for a 3 hour shift, click here. Comprehensive Training Systems, City College, Mesa College, & Southwestern College have joined forces to form The Allied Healthcare Pathways to Careers

SAN DIEGO, CA – As a part of the Allied Healthcare Career Pathway Partnership, Comprehensive Training Systems (CTS) was recently awarded a grant through the Workforce Funders Collaborative. This grant was awarded to lead and develop career advancement opportunities in the medical field for dislocated workers and low-income young adults. CTS partnered with local colleges to establish and identify new practices in the healthcare industry.

The mission of Allied Healthcare Pathways to Careers is: assist dislocated workers and low-income young adults in receiving an education, training, and career awareness to gain employment in the medical field.   The program will assist participants with career exploration, paid externship, job placement, and on-the-job training.  

CTS is a non-profit community-based organization serving San Diego’s employment and training needs for 25 years. Located in two strategic areas in the county, Central, and South San Diego, CTS has successfully placed more than 6,000 candidates in employed positions through collaborations with various agencies.

Candidates must be individuals who have been terminated/laid off from their previous job within the last 12 months and low-income young adults between the ages of 18-21.  Eligibility for young adults is determined by their household income.

Backpack Drive for KHS students!

We are collecting over 100 backpacks to give to students at Kearny High School and in the Linda Vista community, so that they have the tools they need for a successful school year!

Purchase a solid-colored backpack, and stuff with school supplies (pens, notebooks, etc) or snacks. Return backpacks filled with school supplies on Sunday, August 29th to the KHS patio at all worship gatherings.

We also need a few volunteers to help organize the backpacks. If you are available Monday, August 30th, in the morning or afternoon, contact MawiPatten@DIVEintoFLOOD.com.

Each year Flood has the opportunity to welcome the KHS teachers & faculty back to the campus at the start of the school year: the KHS Faculty Appreciation Lunch will be on Wednesday, September 1st, 12-1pm!
